TEI Staff Changes

After 15 years, TEI’s Executive Director, Eli Dicker, concluded his service to TEI in January 2021. Eli has joined Crowe LLP, one of TEI’s Platinum sponsors, as a managing director of national markets. Eli played a critical role leading TEI’s staff, and we are grateful for his many contributions. The Executive Committee and the Board of Directors each passed a resolution in December 2020 commending Eli for his service and dedication to the Institute.

In conjunction with Eli’s departure, Pilar Mata has assumed the role of Director of Operations. Pilar joined TEI in 2015, after 15 years of working at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan (now Eversheds Sutherland) and Morrison & Foerster. Pilar has led TEI’s efforts concerning U.S. State & Local Tax, worked closely with Region I and Region XI while supporting TEI’s Canadian Commodity Tax and European Indirect Tax Committees, and supported various initiatives including TEI’s Diversity and Inclusion work group and web capabilities goal. Pilar will be responsible for TEI’s day-to day operations, and will focus on how TEI is adapting to address the current business climate while ensuring TEI meets the evolving needs of our membership. Pilar will report to TEI’s International President, James Kennedy, while the Executive Committee and Board of Directors determine Eli’s successor. Additionally, Lisa Samuels, TEI’s Director of Marketing and Communications, has assumed responsibility for Membership, effective January 1, 2021. This change will enable TEI to focus additional efforts to recruit, retain, and serve TEI’s Members, and coordinate those efforts with Marketing and Communications.
