    Dear Fellow TEI Members and Friends:
     
    The New York Chapter of TEI will have a joint, all-day education conference with the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance on May 3, 2016 at the State’s facility located at the MetroTech Center in Brooklyn (easily reached through several subway lines).
     
    • Top ranking NYS Department of Taxation and Finance personnel will be participating, including Commissioner Jerry Boone, Deputy Commissioner Argi O’Leary, New York State Business Ombudswoman Mwisa Chisunka and Joe Carzo, Director of Audits.
    • Corporate Tax Reform will be discussed in detail by Deputy Commissioner Robert Plattner and Deputy Counsel, Deb Liebman.
    • A New York City Department of Finance Update will be presented by Harry Leonard, Assistant Commissioner, NYC Department of Finance
    • There will also be a discussion of the practical effect of the recent corporate tax reform on the 2015 tax returns as well as an update of the Voluntary Disclosure and Compliance Program.
     
     The State is interested in hearing from us as representatives of corporate taxpayers and there will be a discussion session entitled Conversation with the Commissioner. This is an opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions about the Department’s priorities and operations.  If you have questions which you would like addressed at this meeting, you may submit them to linda.klang@lehmanholdings.com.

    This meeting will take place at the State’s facility at 15 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn.  Even if you have never been there, this location is easy to get to via subway (see travel instructions here).

    2016 – The New Planning Landscape. We will discuss expansive new permanent establishment rules and the potential impact on state tax throw-out rules, anti-hybrid initiatives, and more. 

    Lunch and Panel Discussion:

    Anatomy of a Tax Issue: You have identified the issue – now what do you do? We will use one or more case studies to explore different approaches to resolving tax issues, including prospective planning, targeted legislation, competent authority, negotiations and finally litigation.

  • 11TH ANNUAL REGION II TAX FORUM

    Dear Members and Friends of Tax Executives Institute Region II:

    Region II is returning to the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City for the 2016 Region II Tax Forum.  Our 11thAnnual Tax Forum will be held on Monday and Tuesday, June 6 - 7, at this exquisite location.We are honored to have McDermott Will & Emery LLP and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP partnering with us as co-sponsors of the 2016 Tax Forum.
     
    As you can see from the attached brochure, the Tax Forum will include 4 plenary and 10 breakout sessions offering a wide selection of Federal, International, and State & Local topics.  Presenters will be the top-level speakers from our sponsoring firms.  From BEPS to whistleblower actions, from the reorganization of LB&I (with its new “issue focused” examination process, centralized risk assessment and issue selection, and “campaign” approach) to corporate restructurings, the Tax Forum has something for every corporate tax professional concerned with the key issues of the day. Monday’s keynote luncheon speaker will be Barbara Harris, LB&I’s Director of Northeastern Compliance.  Other government speakers will include Catherine Jones, LB&I’s Director of North Atlantic Field Operations, and John J. Ficara, the new Acting Director of the New Jersey Division of Taxation. 
     
    The $215 registration fee covers all of the technical sessions, breakfast, lunch and refreshments on both days, as well as our Monday evening reception.  An estimated 11.5 CPE or 8.5 CLE credits will be available.  And, once again, the Origins team will provide mini-facials, cosmetic makeovers, and gift bags.
