Our 2015/2016 program is now underway. A description of upcoming sessions is provided below. Presentation materials from previous years' sessions can be found under the "Chapter Documents" tab to the left (viewable by members only). On Thursday, September 17 KPMG hosted "The Afternoon Show with Russ Crawford", which explored the latest developments in tax. The afternoon session was held at the Four Seasons Hotel and was followed by cocktails at the Four Seasons and dinner at Hawksworth Restaurant.
A lunch meeting was held on Thursday, October 22 at the Terminal City Club. Borden Ladner Gervais LLP presented "GAAR, GAAR Alternatives and the Shield of Solicitor-Client Privilege".
The November meeting was an afternoon session presented by Deloitte on November 24. The theme of the presentation was "Disruption is coming" - the impact of rapid advances in technology, plus an Economic Update with Jock Finlayson. The afternoon session was followed by wine tasting and canapes at the Deloitte Learning Centre.
On December 9 a lunch meeting was held at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia. BDO LLP presented "International Tax Issues" and "Tax Valuation Issues Recently Encountered".
On January 26, 2016 a lunch meeting was held at the Terminal City Club. Thorsteinssons presented "What's Up in Sales Tax and GST?". A detailed agenda and slides of the presentation can be found in Chapter Documents.
The annual CRA liaison event was held on February 10 at the Terminal City Club. This was an afternoon session with an update from CRA on compliance programs and an e-Services update, presentations by Tim Duholke and Ed Kroft, followed by dinner. All of the presentations can be found in Chapter Documents.
A lunch meeting was held at the Terminal City Club on March 17. Joel Nitikman from Dentons presented a "Mock Tax Trial".
Ernst & Young hosted an afternoon session at the Four Seasons on April 21, presenting a Budget Overview, Tax Incentives & Review Programs, and M&A Activities and Loss Planning. The session was followed by cocktails.
PwC hosted an event at the Pan Pacific Hotel on May 10. Plenary sessions included "Running tax like a business" and "Top tax ideas of 2016". These were followed by breakout sessions which were chosen by attendees. A reception and dinner followed the presentations.
Blakes will host a seminar followed by dinner at the Fairmont Pacific Rim on June 9. Topics will be "Foreign Currency" and "Hot Topics and Developments in Tax".
The Chapter AGM and dinner will be held on June 22 at the Shangri-La Hotel.
