On September 27, 2012 KPMG hosted a session on Navigating the Changing Tax Landscape. Presentation topics included International tax developments including thin capitalization rules and foreign affiliate amendments, Transition back to GST/PST, Implications and planning under the new partnership deferral provisions, US tax - visiting age old topics with a new twist in 2012 and CRA formal audit initiatives and practices. The presentations were followed by cocktails and dinner at Ki Modern Japanese and Bar.
On November 8 Deloitte presented "Competing in the new global economy - the evolving role of the Tax Executive". Topics included Innovation, R&D and global competition, Business restructuring, Relevance and risk intelligence, US sales & use taxes and PST Transition - Latest Developments. This was followed by cocktails and dinner at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, including perspectives from Pierre Pettigrew, a Deloitte Executive Advisor. |
On November 29 the Chapter held its annual liaison event with members of the CRA. The meeting consisted of afternoon presentations by the CRA and a review of recent cases by Ed Kroft, a partner with Blakes, followed by cocktails and dinner. This event took place at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.
On January 23, 2013 the Vancouver Chapter visited the Surrey Taxation Centre for a liaison event with officials of the CRA. The visit started at 10:00 am and included lunch and a tour of the Taxation Centre. The focus as on changes to the electronic delivery of services by the CRA including improved self service options for taxpayers. Details of the presentation are provided in Chapter Documents. On February 20 representatives of the B.C. Ministry of Finance Outreach Program discussed the re-introduction of the B.C. Provincial Sales Tax. This was a lunch meeting held at the Terminal City Club.
On March 12 Ernst & Young hosted an afternoon session at the Four Seasons Hotel followed by cocktails. The session was "A New Global Paradigm: OECD Base Erosion and Profit Sharing Report".
On April 18 PWC hosted a Tax Technical Session whose theme was "Tax in an Ever-Changing World". The session was followed by a reception and dinner at the Terminal City Club.
On May 13 Blakes hosted an afternoon seminar at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia followed by dinner at Hawksworth Restaurant. The seminar covered Equity-Based Compensation and Settling Tax Disputes.
On June 4 Farris will host an afternoon session on recent tax developments including emerging trends, current cases, "hot" international topics and a Canadian corporate tax update. The presentation will be at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, followed by cocktails and dinner.
