Our 2016/2017 program is now underway. Upcoming sessions are described below. The first event in the 2016/2017 program was hosted by KPMG on October 6, 2016. This was an afternoon presentation called "Tax Risks: Navigating Rough Waters" at the Sutton Place Hotel, which consisted of a plenary session followed by breakout sessions. This was followed by a reception and dinner at Sutton Place.
On November 8 BDO Canada LLC reviewed recent US tax developments, international tax related CRA rulings and Canadian court cases and discussed cross-border financing structures. The presentation was held at the Terminal City Club from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and was followed by cocktails and appetizers.
An afternoon presentation was made by Ryan ULC on January 26, 2017 at the Terminal City Club and was followed by cocktails and appetizers. Topics covered were: "Better understanding Revenu Quebec", "Distinction between Canada & US from a sales tax point of view", and "Canadian and US cross-border issues and US tax reform".
The CRA liaison meeting was held on February 22 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Terminal City Club. Coffee and scones were served prior to the meeting. CRA presented updates on the Compliance Program Branch and Country by Country Reporting.
Blakes hosted an event on March 8 at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. Ed Kroft presented "Remedies in Tax Controversies" and Deborah Toaze presented "Settlement Strategies". The seminar was followed by a reception and dinner.
On April 6 Ernst & Young LLP will present a technical session from 3pm to 5pm at the Four Seasons, followed by cocktails from 5pm to 6pm.
Deloitte will make a presentation during the week of May 8. Further details will follow when they are available.
On May 31 PWC will host a session on Tax in Changing Times at the Pan Pacific Hotel, which will be followed by dinner. The session will be an overview of the current state of tax locally, nationally and globally.
