SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Summary:

The role advises the Tax function within the higher levels of the organization with respect to Region Americas (not including Brazil). This role ensures tax policies, processes, and strategies are properly and consistently deployed group-wide. The job holder proactively takes a forward-looking view, and provides insight to and advises on the organization’s tax strategy to maximize value, performing a range of analytics to build and evaluate business cases / plans. This role acts as a sparring partner to the Tax function and management, providing advice as well as guidance on highly complex tax activities and critical issues. The job holder will coordinate and manage tax initiatives requiring a high level of experience as well as superior business understanding; projects tend to be complex, large in scope, and of significant importance to the organization.

This role readily interacts with various counterparts throughout the organization, manages teams on a project basis, and promotes cross-functional teamwork to engage the requisite resources. The job holder builds relationships with external advisors and consultants to enhance the level of service to the organization. This role closely collaborates with Tax Leads and provides recommendations to the Group Tax Head to effectively manage the organization’s effective tax rate as well as tax risk exposure.

Essential Functions:

  • Proactively identify and report tax risks and opportunities on local and regional level and propose, contribute to and execute tax strategies including determining the optimal legal entity structure and minimizing tax burden
  • Partner with business leads to assess and advise on tax implications/opportunities of potential transactions, both M&A and other on-going activities
  • Review and analyze all income tax reporting on local and regional level including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, budgeting and forecasting under IFRS
  • Review income tax returns (and the associated data inputs) prepared by outside tax adviser to ensure that critical elections and information have been included and that significant transactions/tax planning initiatives are properly reflected
  • Negotiate tax rulings and incentives with government authorities

POSITION SPECIFICATION

  • Manage tax audits and dispute resolutions and liaise with accounting function to secure appropriate data.
  • Maintain constructive relationship with government authorities.
  • Manage relationship with outside advisors used for tax projects and advice
  • Coordinate and implement transfer pricing policies and ensure compliance and completeness of related transfer pricing documentation
  • Monitor tax legislation, including participation in professional tax associations, and determine effect of proposed and newly enacted tax laws/regulations
  • Provide tax advice as requested to other BC departments and businesses. Research tax issues and seek outside advice as needed
  • Manage Regional tax budget including spend on outsider advisors

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA or similar)
Work Experience:
  • At least 10 years of experience in international taxation with Big Four Advisor or comparable role in multinational corporations
  • Strong international tax planning and transfer pricing with a specific focus on the Americas
  • Experience working for U.S. inbound corporation a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. tax compliance including information reporting on Forms 1042, 5471 and 5472
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
