Income Tax Analyst


Central Transport has been a leader in LTL (less-than-truckload) transportation for more than 80 years, and is currently seeking a Mid-level Tax Analyst at our Corporate Office in Warren, MI. The Tax Analyst will be responsible for preparing federal, state and Canadian returns and will also gain exposure to a variety of domestic and international corporate tax compliance issues. The tax analyst roll requires attention to detail and the ability to think strategically. There is a high volume of tax preparation and tax diversity; therefore an ideal tax analyst would be able to work in a team environment; be able to maintain and be responsible for statutory and internal due dates for a variety of tax filings.


Responsibilities Include:

  •  Preparing annual federal, state and local tax filings for corporations, S corporations and partnerships using ‘Prosystem FX’ tax software
  •  Calculating and analyzing income and franchise tax payments, including annual extensions and monthly and quarterly estimates
  •  Prepare and analyzing apportionment data for the preparation of estimated tax payments, returns, and provisions
  •  Researching federal and state tax law in order to prepare work papers for book to taxable income differences and state apportionment using Microsoft Excel
  •  Coordinating the preparation of annual Canadian tax returns using ‘Corporate Taxprep’ software
  •  Solving routine accounting and reporting issues
  •  Completing interim and annual tax accounting and provision workpapers
  •  Assisting with tax research, SOX compliance and special projects at the direction of senior leadership
  •  Helping to gather and analyze documents for federal and state audits
  •  Responding to federal and state tax notices in a timely manner
  •  Assisting with gathering data for sale and use tax returns and personal property tax returns


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a tax related role or with a CPA firm
  •  Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
  •  Proficiency and comfort using Microsoft Excel required
  •  Strong analytical skills
  •  Self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  •  Detail oriented with strong organizational skills for multi-tasking
