Job Summary

As a member of the Tax Department, the Senior Sales and Use Tax Accountant will be tasked with insuring that all legal entities are in compliance with state and local jurisdictional requirements. The position supports successful preparation and review of sales and use tax compliance returns and accompanying audit support for KinderCare Education and its subsidiaries. The incumbent is also primarily responsible for renewing all business licenses for the company’s locations and responding to inquiries related to miscellaneous taxes and licenses. In addition and as time allows, the Senior Accountant will assist with research.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting in the review of monthly sales, use and gross receipts tax compliance returns and preparing these returns on a back-up basis
  • Responsible for preparing all business licenses, both renewals and new licenses
  • Keeping all tax jurisdiction registrations current as needed (including filing new registrations and updating existing registrations for name changes)
  • Monitor limited sales activity to ensure all jurisdictions are properly registered and tax is being paid correctly
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring Oracle EB Tax module
  • Gather data from company systems for sales and use tax audits
  • Interface with state and local taxing jurisdictions
  • Monitor state tax legislation changes
  • Conduct tax research for new business initiatives
  • Audit vendor invoices for proper sales tax treatment and correspond with vendors to resolve questions concerning tax treatment
  • Develop internal company relationships outside of Tax Department for purposes of obtaining business information and educating others on tax compliance issues
  • Assist with miscellaneous tax projects, research and other duties as assigned
  • Review sales and use tax calendar, updating when necessary
  • Conduct account reconciliations and provide budget assistance

Experience and Education

  • Position requires a f our year degree in Accounting or other related business area
  • Sales and Use tax experience required. 2 years of experience in a multi-state tax department strongly preferred
  • Experience with tax software a plus. Oracle Accounting Software experience is preferred
  • Incumbent will need a basic understanding of the functions, regulations and procedures of compliance agencies or governing bodies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Individual must have the skill and ability to conduct tax research
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to interface with taxing authorities and other internal departments
  • Ability to organize and manage a workload that includes numerous time sensitive tax filings is required; therefore a keen sense of urgency is a must
