Assist with calculating income taxes and financial reporting of Expedia’s foreign entities. Ensure adherence to controls and rigor in the calculation process. Additionally, provide support for Mergers and Acquisitions, corporate transactions, and other special projects.


Expedia Corporate Finance is all about maximizing shareholder value. The Expedia Foreign Tax Provision team maintains the responsibility for calculating and reporting the income tax effect of Expedia's foreign entities for U.S. financial reporting. We partner with other groups within the Tax Department and the Expedia organization to properly report financial results while retaining controls. We play an integral part of company growth by assisting with transactions and company initiatives. As a member of the team, you will help to achieve team goals and priorities that are aligned with the comprehensive goals of the Expedia Tax Department as well as the broader Expedia organization. We seek an individual who will work with the Global Tax Provision and International Tax teams to support the global reporting process and ensure accuracy, documentation, and accessibility of tax accounting positions.

You will need to collaborate effectively across tax disciplines and the wider company matrix.

Your responsibilities in this position include:

Tax Accounting

  • Prepare income tax provision for foreign entities, including:
    • Effective tax rate
    • Current and deferred provision
  • Deferred balances
  • Review provision to return adjustments
  • Prepare deferred balance proofs
    • Coordinate foreign income tax FIN 48 calculations of foreign entities with the Global Tax Provision team
  • Perform the unremitted earnings and APB 23 calculations
  • Support quarterly and year-end global provision calculation, including:
    • Jurisdictional netting
    • Journal entries
    • Balance sheet flux and certifications
  • Prepare internal controls documentation
  • Assist in external audit of financial statements

Special Projects

  • Technical –
    • Analysis of tax reporting developments and tax technical announcements. Prepare technical memo or other deliverables documenting the analysis and conclusions
    • Prepare technical documentation of current year transactions
    • Support foreign transactions and business programs
    • Analyze and model legislative proposals and change
  • M&A – Support mergers, acquisitions, and business initiatives
  • Technology – Support technology implementation, particularly CorpTax Provision
  • Controls and Processes –
    • Maintain process documentation, including preparation of initial processes and annual updates of existing processes
    • Assist with continuous improvement and efficiency of the foreign tax provision process
  • Opportunities – Identify income tax opportunities/exposures


  • Acquire and develop skills related to Expedia’s core competencies
  • Establish relationships outside of tax (e.g., coordinate with Legal, Finance and Accounting)
  • Monitor legislative updates and technical guidance
  • Meet CPE requirements


  • Hold a BA/BS and/or Master’s degree in Accounting or Tax
  • CPA license preferred
  • Have at least 3+ years of experience in ASC 740 reporting with one of the “Big Four” firms
  • Possess comprehensive technical skills in general accounting principles and Federal and State income tax concepts
  • Have tax software experience, preferably CorpTax
  • Demonstrate strength in the use of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
  • You should demonstrate the ability to utilize tax knowledge and previous experience to make valuable contributions and assist in meeting the department’s objectives while working in a dynamic, team oriented, rapidly changing, and fast-growing organization
  • Demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent computer and tax research skills
  • Be organized and attentive to detail
  • Work well independently in a team environment
  • Be a self-starter and diligent problem solver
