General Position Summary:

This position is responsible for preparing personal property tax renditions for all applicable jurisdictions that include all assessable assets owned by assigned clients.  Other responsibilities include reconciliations to system of record, data analysis of property valuation assessments, accounts payable, accounts receivable, liaison for internal and external clients, and adherence to established company policies and procedures.

Primary Function/Major Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain computer programs used by the department, including working with IT Department when necessary.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tangible personal property renditions for assigned clients (the more complex clients).
  3. Evaluate and timely process personal property assessed value notices and tax bills for assigned clients.
  4. Timely process property tax assessments to lessee accounts for assigned clients.
  5. Review new leases for assigned clients to ensure proper tax coding.
  6. Respond to internal and external client inquiries regarding property taxes.  Consult with Tax Manager for guidance or instruction on complex issues.
  7. Respond to tax jurisdiction inquiries.
  8. Assist Tax Manager with property tax audits for assigned clients.
  9. Assist Tax Manager with developing and documenting standard operating procedures for the Property Tax Department.
  10. Assist Tax Manager with new client conversions
  11. Cross train in sales/use tax.
  12. Special projects as assigned.

Job Complexity:

High degree of complexity, operating from established policies and procedures.  Performs duties with little supervision.  Will be required to make decisions based on prior experience.  Review established policies and procedures if Tax Manager is not available. 

Specific Job Skills:

This position requires the following:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of pertinent property tax laws
  • Advanced computer skills:  Word and Excel mandatory. Knowledge of pivot tables and v-lookup formulas, LeasePak, and Property Tax Management System (PTMS) preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to calculate ratios, rates and percentages 
  • Analytical skills to decipher tax guides, technical journals, company reports and legal documents
  • Ability to write business letters, reports, and summaries using proper business formats and conforming to company policies and procedures
  • Intermediate knowledge of general ledger accounting
  • Ten-key calculation by touch
  • Typing 40-45 wpm

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None at time of hiring.  It is the intention for this position to have a supervisory role in the future.

Interpersonal Contacts:

Contact is with other PFSC employees/departments and external clients, client customers, and government authorities.  Communication may be either written or verbal and requires detailed and accurate explanations and/or discussions to maintain good client relations and satisfy the company’s legal obligations to avoid financial penalties.

Education and/or Experience Required:

Associate to Bachelor degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or business related field preferred.  Four or more years experience in financial accounting or lease accounting. Three to four years’ experience in multi-state sales/property tax preparation preferred.

Job Conditions:

Must be able to work normal business hours, generally 8:00am to 5:00pm, or other hours as designated Monday through Friday in an office environment.  Must display a willingness to work additional hours if required for completion of the department and position responsibilities.
