The Leasing Tax Manager is responsible for managing processes and personnel associated with key leasing tax issues and functions including leasing technical and compliance matters ensure compliance with tax laws, reporting requirements, accounting policies and other internal policies. The Leasing Tax Manager is also responsible for assisting with the identification and implementation of ideas to save taxes, reduce costs and increase efficiencies. Reporting organizationally to the Director of Tax or other senior tax leader, this key individual will interact routinely with various Leasing, business and Finance leaders as well as leaders and others within key corporate and administrative functions such as Payroll, Legal, Accounts Payable, and other departments.

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Manages and reviews leasing technical tax matters and leasing tax personnel. Includes setting priorities, monitoring performance, evaluating and developing procedures and motivating staff to achieve an efficient, economical work environment.
  • Oversees personnel functions of supervisory or senior staff within the department, including staffing, promotional changes, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary action and other issues that arise.
  • Manage assigned Tax functions while meeting and adhering to corporate, legal, and regulatory policies, guidelines, and requirements to ensure compliance and avoid exam findings, assessments, and penalties.
  • Maintain and develop technical expertise by accessing daily updates, attending local or national conferences and roundtables, etc. Apprise other tax department team members, Finance personnel and business leaders of all relevant developments.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion and/or filing of all workpapers, account reconciliations, tax returns, reports, certifications, etc. Ensure all appropriate and required documentation is completed.
  • Drive continual process improvements within the Tax department and throughout TCF in order to minimize taxes, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and maintain credibility in the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in a combination of global accounting firms and/or large corporation tax departments.
  • Strong leadership skills and potential with ability to work with all levels of personnel and management
  • Experience leading and facilitating cross-departmental teams and projects to resolution
  • Ability to mentor and develop team members
  • Proven project management and organization skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Adaptive learner; able to grasp new concepts quickly
  • A passion for details and a sense of urgency


  • Advanced Degree in Taxation, or Juris Doctor
  • CPA or related certification
  • Financial services industry experience
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise team members to ensure effectiveness
  • Acquire, manage, coach, cross train, develop and retain appropriate personnel to ensure success
