Since the Financial Crisis of 2008 the economy has been on a roller coaster, creating unprecedented challenges to valuations. For example, risk-free interest rates serve as the benchmark upon which cost of equity capital models are built. But during three periods since the fall of 2008 (including today) risk free interest rates are abnormally low resulting in indications of the cost of equity capital that do not match the business risk.
    ·         How does one match business risks with cost of equity capital estimates?
    ·          What is the difference between Fair Value of Intangibles vs. Fair Market Values? In analyzing an acquisition, should the value of assets be different for financial reporting (Fair Value for ASC 805 under ASC 820) compared to income tax reporting (Fair Market Value for transfer of those the same intellectual property rights to a different legal entity)?
    ·         What cost of capital issues should be considered when valuing foreign subsidiaries?
    ·         What are the issues when valuing worthless stock?

Additionally, Roger invites our members to submit a brief description of valuation issues that you have recently or are currently dealing with so he can include a discussion of those issues in his presentation. Roger’s e-mail address is roger.grabowski@duffandphelps.com.

Prior to joining Duff and Phelps, Roger was a Managing Director of Standard and Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting Practice and before that a partner at Price Waterhouse where he founded its U.S. Valuation Services Practice and managed the real estate appraisal practice.
